Service Unit Basics
What is a service unit? Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road is divided into 82 service units that are led by experienced, dedicated, passionate volunteers who support and serve Girl Scouts, troops, and volunteers in their local area and/or communities.
What are service unit meetings? Girl Scout volunteers are stronger together. Service unit meetings are monthly meetings either in person or virtual in which all the volunteers in your service unit come together to discuss GSUSA, council, and service unit information. This can include information pertaining to membership and recruitment, volunteer services, product program, program and outdoor, and shop. You’ll also network with volunteers in your community, receive training throughout the year, and participate in Girl Scout governance at the local level
GSKWR holds Service Unit Team Training traditionally in June of each year. In 2025 Service Unit Team Training's theme will be choose by YOU, the volunteers! You'll be able to submit your theme ideas beginning at OWL in August 2024 through November 1st. Beginning in 2025 you'll vote on which theme you like the best on our council's Facebook page. To submit a theme please email Melissa Wallace, mwallace@gswrc.org or Tara Hamilton at thamilton@gswrc.org. Registration will open in the winter and you may register through gsEvents.
Training by request! Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road Council schedules a variety of training dates and locations, but we know that volunteers may need additional options. That is why we are pleased to offer you, our volunteers, the opportunity to request training. This allows service units, troop leaders, or anyone looking to become skilled in a specific training to schedule one. Once you have submitted your online Request a Training you will hear back from a staff member within one week from the date of request. For additional questions please reach out to the Volunteer Services Manager, Tara Hamilton, thamilton@gswrc.org.
