Become a National Girl Scout Delegate

Every three years Girl Scouts of United States of America (GSUSA) holds a National Convention and National Council Session (Business Meeting). During this business meeting, important work for the organization takes place and every council in the country sends representatives. YOU could be one of those representatives!

National Council Delegates serve an important role for the council. As our representative, you elect the National Board of Directors and National Board Development Committee members, amend the constitution, and vote on important proposals. You also help influence the strategic direction of the Girl Scout movement by providing guidance to the National Board.

The next National Council Session will take place in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2029. Requirements for becoming a National Delegate include:

Being 14 years or older by January 2028.
A United States citizen
A registered Girl Scout member
Able to serve the entire three-year term

Who are National Delegates? toggle arrow

National Delegates are elected representatives of Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road and serve as voting members during Girl Scouts of the USA’s triennial National Council Session. The individuals in this role are responsible for engaging and gathering feedback from Girl Scout members in our council and determining the direction the Girl Scout Movement will take by debating issues and voting on proposals at the National Council Session. National Delegates can be adults or youth ages 14 + and must be members of Girl Scouts of Kentucky's Wilderness Road throughout their entire three-year term.

What responsibilities & support can I expect as a National Delegate? toggle arrow

National Delegates are required to attend the National Council Session and any applicable trainings or meetings leading up to the session. The National Council at its sessions shall hold elections, amend the Constitution, establish requirements for credentials, and shall determine the general lines of policy of the Girl Scout Movement and program by considering and acting upon proposals directed toward the fostering and improvement of Girl Scouting, by receiving and acting upon reports of its National Board of Directors, and by giving guidance to the National Board upon general lines of direction of the Movement and program.

All National Delegates will be supported by our Council Delegate Liaison, have access to the National Delegate website portal, and receive training and education. In the website portal, you will have access to webinars, training, and the ability to connect with peers across the movement.

What are the details on the next National Council Session? toggle arrow

The next National Council Session and National Convention will take place in Inianapolis, Indiana in July, 2029. Girl Scouts and Adults from across the movement gather every three years to connect, raise voice to the issues most critical to Girl Scouting, and elect national leaders for the upcoming triennium. The National Convention is open for anyone to register.
