Short Term Volunteers

No time for long-term volunteering commitments? No worries! There’s a place for you.  Girl Scouts also need volunteers at events, programs and camps.

Whether you have time for a one-time event, just a few hours a month or much more time to share, we have a short-term volunteer opportunity for you. 

Share you time, talents and skills with girls and adults one-time, for a short term or by joining a committee.  View our current short-term volunteer opportunities below.  Check back often – we add new opportunities throughout the year! 

Program/Event Volunteers

What you’ll do:  Join our Council Program Teams to provide programming that inspires girls and parents and engages the community in supporting our mission

What you’ll get:  You’ll gain experience in event planning, leadership and volunteer management

CURRENT OPPORTUNITIES
NOTE:  Some opportunities may require a background check or other credentials.  Those requirements will be noted in the description

NEW this month:  Unwind your Mind.  This program focuses on helping girls handle social and emotional stress in healthy ways.  All necessary training, curriculum and program materials provided.  You do not have to be an expert! 
Program runs 4-6 weeks immediately after school.  
Requires a background check with Girl Scouts. 
Opportunities open in the Ashland, Prestonsburg and Pikeville areas.

Assist with Girl Scout Recruitment Event Programs.  Help new girl learn about Girl Scouts by working on of the activity booths.   All necessary training and materials provided.  Work with experienced volunteers or staff during this event.  Great for someone looking for a one time experience!

Camp Activity Volunteers

What you’ll do:  Join our Camp Program Team to help girls become stewards of the environment and develop their leadership skills as they explore nature, take safe risks, and find the fun in the outdoors.

What you’ll get:  You’ll gain experience in outdoor programming, team building and a sense of peace knowing that the knowledge and values you shared with the girls will empower them to protect and nurture the environment in the future. Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road is looking for individuals who would love to work with girls in outdoor programming.  We have short-term volunteer opportunities in counties and cities throughout our jurisdiction, including our council camps, Camp Shawano, located outside of Lexington and Camp Judy Layne, located outside of Morehead.  Check out the opportunities below.

College Internships

Internships that Make a Difference

Interns with the Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road can expect to gain a sense of pride while receiving professional recognition. Internship opportunities are available in a variety of areas. Wherever your area of interest, Girl Scouts interns get to be involved with an organization that allows them to make a difference in girl's lives while gaining professional experience. 

We Offer:

  • Engaging projects producing meaningful work and making a positive contribution to girls’ lives
  • Flexible work schedule with negotiable hours
  • Exceptional networking, resume-building, and work experience opportunity
  • Internship experiences may be tailored to meet the student’s individual learning and development needs
  • Internships are unpaid.  However, a limited number of paid membership and camp internships may be available each semester. 

When we need you: 

  • We offer internship opportunities for all semesters:  spring, summer and fall.  Assignments may vary based on the time of your you are interning.

What we are looking for:

  • Must be receiving college credit/practicum
  • Able to work independently and prioritize work while managing multiple deadlines
  • Must successfully complete a criminal background check
  • Must be willing to become a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA (membership fees are paid by GSKWR)
  • Ability to give and receive information by telephone, email and in person
  • Have a computer and internet access

Archive Committee
