Upcoming 2023 Outdoor Programs

Daisy Outdoor Magic - Saturday July 15 - Sunday July 16

Calling all Daisies. Come join us for a fun-filled overnight with your mom, grandma, or aunt... Camp Shawano is a wonderful place to start creating outdoor experiences. There will be a nature hike with a scavenger hunt. You will learn how to make music with nature. And there will be a campfire with s'mores. You will experience a night in a cabin in the woods.

Registration is on Campdoc and will close May 15th. Minimum: 20 Maximum: 60 Cost is $80/each girl who is a registered Girl Scout and each adult. Non Girl Scouts are $115.

 

Camp Cache - The Camp Cache is the gold award project by Mary Lara. Caches contain materials that will be helpful for troops to plan and do activities at camp.

New! - Fairy Tale Theater

The theater is located between Woodview and Lookout Lodges. It was built by Gracie for her Gold Award. There is a stage with curtains and benches for the audience to sit.

FROM I-64, I-75 & LEXINGTON: Take Exit 108 on I-75 (Man O War) towards Lexington, turn south onto Tates Creek Road (Rt. 1974) towards Nicholasville, turn right onto Newman Road in Spears and Camp is approximately 2 miles on the left

FROM NICHOLASVILLE: Take Rt. 169 (Union Mill Rd.) east to Spears, then right at the stop sign and immediately right onto Newman Rd. and Camp is approximately 2 miles on the left.

Camp is approximately 22 miles from the Lexington Service Center.

About Camp Shawano: Camp Shawano is 142 acres located in Jessamine County Kentucky. The camp consists of large meadows for sports and recreational activities. The property has a climbing tower, archery range, and facilities for seasonal and year round use. This is the perfect camp for first time troop camping! 

Facilities & Amenities

Bird's Nest Cabin Unit

Description -

There are three cabins at Bird's Nest). Each cabin has electricity and four sets of bunkbeds (8 beds total in each). Cabin sleeps eight each. Cabin is heated by wall heaters and cooled by floor fans. Bedding is not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and or sleeping bag. 

The shelter is connected to the cabins and has electricity, picnic tables with benches, a prep table for preparing meals, an outdoor refirgerator, and a stone fireplace for cooking meals. Logs are provided. You will need to collect your own tinder and kindling which can be found on the ground all around the unit.

The latrines are the restroom facility for this unit but campers are welcome to use the main bath house. The bath house is available to all campers and is used as the storm shelter. Campers are responsible for cleaning the bathouse if they use it.

Jack Frost Cabin Unit

Description -

Cabin with electric, water, kitchen, fireplace, open floor area for games & activities, fire circle and latrine.

The Jack Frost unit has a large open space with a stone fireplace. The open room can be used for sleeping, activities and games. The unit has sleeping mattresses to lay on the floor. Bedding is not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and or sleeping bag. The unit has electricity and is heated by fireplace and cooled by floor fans. 

The unit includes a full kitchen with stove, oven, refirgerator, microwave, coffee pot, and sink. Some cooking untensils are included. 

There is no indoor bathroom in this unit. Campers must use the latrines outside. There is a wooden deck with handicap ramp connected to the unit. Firecircle in the grass area.

Girl Scout Fees - $25/night (per group of 15 or less)

Non-Scout Fees - $75/night (per group of 15 or less)

Bath House

Description -

The main bath house includes six private showers and six private stalls with toilet available to all campers. Users must clean when finished using the facility. The main bathouse is used as a storm shelter.

Lookout Lodge

Description -

Lodge with kitchen, bathroom & shower, leader’s room, open area, electric & water.

Lookout Lodge is a two story cabin with an upstairs loft. The unit has electricity and an open space on the main floor for games/activities. The upstairs sleeping loft has mattresses that can be laid out on the floor. Bedding is not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and or sleeping bag. There is a second story deck with fire pole that is used for emergency exit. Unit has a leaders room on the main floor. Leaders room has two cots with mattresses. 

Bathroom is on the main floor and includes a shower, toilet, and sink. The kitchen is also on the main floor and includes stove, oven, coffee pot, refirgerator, and two sinks. There is electric heat in the kitchen and the bathroom (no heat in the great room.) There is a half bath in the loft with a toilet and sink.

A small deck is attached to the unit in the back. Fire circle with wooden benches is behind the Lodge. Logs for fires are provided. There is plenty of kindling and tinder on the ground around the unit that can be gathered by the group for fires.

Woodview Lodge

Description -

Entire lodge sleeps 36, with large open area in middle, bathrooms, showers, kitchen. Heat and air conditioning are in the middle Great Room.

The lodge has two identical sides (Side A and side B) with a shared Great Room in the middle. Each side has a set of eight bunkbeds (sleeps 16 campers for each side.) Each side has a leaders room with two cots and mattresses. There is a private bathroom attached to the leaders room. The leaders bathroom includes a shower, toilet, and sink. Bedding is not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and or sleeping bag.

Each side has bathrooms for campers. Bathrooms include sink, 2 toilets, and 2 showers.

Each side has a kitchen area which includes two tables with benches for eating. Stove, oven, coffee pot, refrigerator, microwave, sink, and cooking untensils are included in the kitchen. 

The Great Room is a large open area with a stone fireplace on each side of the room (one for each half). One side of the room has a private bathroom with a toilet and sink. The other side of the room has a janitors closet with cleaning supplies and an ice machine. There are foldout tables and chairs that can be used as long as everything is put away after usage. Each side can be reserved individually or the entire lodge can be reserved. If two troops reserve the lodge at the same time; the Great Room can be shared or a divider can be put up. The entire lodge has electric, water, heat, and air conditioning. Wifi is available. The password is girlscouts.

There is a large deck in the front and the back of the lodge. Security lighting in the front and a rack for split wood (we provide logs, you will need to collect tinder and kindling, which can be found on the ground all around the unit. There are two fiire circles one in front of the lodge and the other in the back behind side A. Ample parking along the road, but be sure not to block the road in case other units are being used and groups need to come and go.

Skyridge Shelter

Description -

Large open area surrounded by forest. Covered shelter with concrete floor. Four wooden picnic tables with benches. Stone fire place under the shelter for cooking meals. Shelter has electric. 

Fire circle located next to the shelter. This is a primitive camping unit (pitch your own tent.) We do not provide any camping gear. Campers must bring their own camping gear.

This unit doesn't have a bathroom facility. Campers must use the Jack Frost latrines.  

Girl Scout Fees - $20/day (per group)

Non-Scout Fees - $50/day (per group)

Redbud Bunkhouses

Description - 

Three bunkhouses (sleep 10 each), latrine, and shelter. 

Each bunkhouse has five sets of metal bunks with mattresses. Each Bunkhouse has electric to plug in floor or window fans. Bedding is not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and/or sleeping bag.

The shelter has electric with picnic tables and benches. There is a stone fireplace in the shelter that can be used for cooking meals. Shelter also has a sink and refrigerator. There is also a large fire circle in the middle of the unit. We provide logs. There is plenty of kindling and tinder on the ground around the unit that can be collected and used.

The latrines are your bathroom facility for this unit.

Cooking utensils not included. Please bring your own cooking utensils or request a unit box on your reservation.

DESIGNATED STORM SHELTER AREA IS JACK FROST, WOODVIEW LODGE OR THE BATH HOUSE – please familiarize yourself and your campers with all safety procedures on arrival.
