Warming Your Heart for the Holidays Part 3:

Licking Valley Cluster at Camp Shawano:

Troop 1141 came to Camp Shawano to volunteer for camp clean-up!

Says Jeff Salyer, Property Director, “The troop volunteered to help me take down tents, cots and mattresses and put it all away for winter storage at the Redbud unit. The girls and their moms worked very hard and displayed great teamwork that enabled us to get it all accomplished in one afternoon. Doing this job by myself takes at least two days of very physically demanding work to accomplish.

I was so impressed with their efficiency and energy…”

We appreciate all the hard work and the great spirit of volunteerism. Way to go Troop 1141!

Warming Your Heart for the Holidays Part 2

Mountain Laurel Cluster, Clay County:

28 Clay County girls participated in their first encampment!

At the encampment they learned great Girl Scout materials like how to tie knots, fire safety, first aid basics, ecology, and so much more! The girls had such a fun time making new friends!

In the tradition of giving back to our communities, the girls also brought a canned food item for the local food bank.

Thanks to leaders Jennifer Wilder (Service Unit Manager and leader of Troop 323), Tabitha Sizemore (Service Unit Treasurer and leader of Troop 333) and Kelly Evans (leader of Troop 119) for organizing the event.

Hopefully these young ladies will learn to treasure outdoor adventures and the natural world around them!

Warming Your Heart for the Holidays Part 1

Ken-O-Valley Cluster, Ironton, OH:

Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1271 (troop leader Stephanie Boyd) hosted the first annual Tab-a-thon to collect pop tabs for Ronald McDonald House Charities at the Dawson-Bryant High School Cafetorium in Ironton, OH!

Seventeen troops from across the council participated by bringing their pop tabs to be weighed and turned in to the representative from Ronald McDonald House in Huntington, WV.

Over 230 pounds of tabs were donated!  The girls and adults from troop 1271 provided carnival-style games, refreshments, and prizes to the troops that participated.  They even had pictures made with the “Hamburglar” and “Milkshake Guy”!

Troop 1534 (troop leader Sheryl Burton) from Hazard turned in 74 pounds of tabs to win the first prize plaque and “goodie bag.”  Ronald McDonald House Charities provides housing for families of hospitalized children in many areas across the country.  Thanks to all the volunteers, especially Stephanie, for hosting this event!  Thanks and congratulations to all the troops that participated in this awesome Take Action project!
