Steps on how to reserve a unit:

  1. How do I reserve a unit for my troop? Email camp@gswrc.org  or call us at 859-293-2621 EXT 2170 to check for availability. When sending an email or leaving a message, please give us the following information. Your name, troop number, phone number, camp you want to stay at, unit you are interested in, and your requested reservation dates. We will contact you if the date you have requested is available.
  2. How do I make my reservation final? Once we have confirmed that the unit you requested is available you will download the Camp Reservation Request Form. Fill out the form and either email the written form to camp@gswrc.org or mail/bring into the Lexington Girl Scout office. The address is Lexington Service Center 2277 Executive Drive Lexington, KY 40505. Please make sure to lable the envelope Camp Department when mailing in the form. Please make sure to include your payment when mailing/bringing in your reservation request form.  
  3.  How do I pay for my unit? All payments can be made over the phone. Please call the Lexington shop at 859-293-2621 and be ready to give the front desk your camping information (your name, camp, unit, and dates.) If you wish to not pay over the phone please mail in your check to the Lexington Girl Scout office. All troops must mail/bring in a $50 deposit check that is only cashed if any damage has been done to the unit after your stay. Please make sure that you write a seperate check for the $50 deposit!
  4. How do I know that my reservation is final? Once we recieve your reservation request form, payment, and $50 deposit check you will then recieve a confirmation letter. All confirmation letters are sent through email.

From I-64: Take Exit 161 towards Carter Caves State on Rt. 60, then left onto Rt.182 towards Carter Caves State Park, travel past the entrance to Carter Caves State Park and continue for approximately one mile. The sign and gate for Camp Cardinal will be on the right.

Camp is approximately 96 miles from the Lexington Service Center.

About Camp Cardinal: Camp Cardinal is 156 acres located on the mountain ridgelines within a short driving distance of Carter Caves State Park where hiking and caving is available. Camp Cardinal is well maintained and suitable for troop camping, day camps, service unit programs and council events. 

Facilities & Amenities

Adventure Haven Tent Unit

Description -

Five tent platforms (sleeps 4 each), two fire circles, water spigot, latrine, shelter with electricity, three showers/restrooms and kitchenette.

Each tent has four cots and mattresses. Sleeps four each. Bedding not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and or sleeping bag. 

Shelter has electric and picnic tables with benches. A small kitchen is attached to the shelter. Kitchen includes stove, refrigerator, microwave, and sink. Cooking utensils not included. Please bring your own cooking utensils. 

Individual bathrooms with toilet, sink, and shower are attached to the shelter. 

Parking accomadates 3 to 4 vehicles.

The shelter, kitchen, and bathrooms are shared with the Adventure Haven Cabin Unit.

Girl Scout Fees - $15/night

Non-Scout Fees - $30/night

Stables Tent Unit

Description -

Five tent platforms (sleeps 4 each), fire circle, water spigot, shelter with fireplace and electricity, located near Bath house.

Each tent has four cots and mattresses. Sleeps four each. Bedding not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and or sleeping bag. 

Shelter has electric and picnic tables with benches. The closest restroom for this unit will be the main bathhouse. 

The main bathouse includes six showers and six toilets. The bathouse is available to all campers. Users must clean the facility when finished using. 

Sleeping Capacity - 20

Girl Scout Fees - $25/night

Non-Scout Fees - $50/night

Dining Hall and Kitchen

Description -

A large dining area with a seating capacity of 90 people. The facility is heated by fireplace and cooled by ceiling fans and large vent fan.

There is no bathroom available to campers but is a short walk to the guest latrine. A handwashing sink is located at the guest latrine. 

Dinning hall kitchen includes sink, walk-in cooler, oven and stove for cooking. Plates, bowls, cups and untensils can be found in the dinning area. Refrigerator and ice machine in the dinning area.

Non-Scout Fees - $50/day

Bath House

Description -

Six showers and six restrooms available to all campers. Users must clean when finished using. The main bath house is used as the storm shelter.

Tut's Hut

Description -

Building for crafts, games and other indoor activities. Can serve up to 40 people at one time.

Art supplies not included. Campers must bring their own art supplies.

Adventure Haven Cabin Unit

Description -

Five Cabins with bunkbeds (sleeps 8 each.) Each Cabin has electric with wall heaters and floor fans. Bedding not included. Campers must bring their own pillow, sheets, blanket and or sleeping bag.  

Shelter has electric and picnic tables with benches. A small kitchen is attached to the shelter, Kitchen includes stove, refrigerator, microwave, and sink. 

Individual bathrooms with toilet, sink, and shower are attached to the shelter. 

Parking accomadates 3 to 4 vehicles. 

The shelter, kitchen, and bathrooms are shared with the Adventure Haven Tent Unit.

DESIGNATED STORM SHELTER AREA IS THE DINING HALL OR BATH HOUSE  – please familiarize yourself and your campers with all safety procedures on arrival.

Due to camp property improvements we are not offering the climbing tower, archery, canoeing or teams course to individual troops camping this spring or renting to non-scout groups. Please check the TAP calendar for Fall Adventure Days.
