Adults

Are you an adult interested in Girl Scouting?

Girl Scouts is a volunteer based organization that needs your involvement to impact communities and improve lives.

Volunteering for Girl Scouts can involve leading a troop, teaching a class, holding an event, driving, chaperoning, or improving our camps.

If you have even one hour a month, Girl Scouts has opportunities available.  All it takes is a desire to help today’s girls become tomorrow’s leaders.

For more information, check out the links to the right of your screen for more information about different methods to volunteer or fill out this interest form and someone will be in touch shortly.

Shop and Share with the First Lady

February 4, 2011

Both Girl Scout Councils of Kentucky are invited to help First Lady Jane Beshear with her service project for the Kentucky Domestic Violence Shelters.  This is a joint initiative of the First Lady’s Office, the Girl Scout Councils of Kentucky and Kroger stores.

The Kentucky Domestic Violence Association serves over 27,000 men, women and children annually, some as residents and some not. There are 15 domestic violence abuse shelters that serve the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Shop and Share is held at Kroger stores across Kentucky on February 4 – the Saturday before the Super Bowl!   Each shelter will provide Kroger stores a list of items needed at the shelters, such as canned foods, toilet paper and soap, etc. Prior to the day the First Lady’s office sends a packet to each Kroger store with copies of the list to hand out to shoppers.

Some Krogers will have a bin or boxes in which to collect the donated goods, or you are welcome to use a shopping cart with a Shop and Share sign on it.

Volunteer Girl Scout troops are needed to help collect donated items at a Kroger stores close to home between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm.  In most cases you should bring folding chairs and a card table and girls may make a poster or sign for their table.

Girl Scouts will ask shoppers to help local shelters by purchasing items the shelters need. Troops will collect the items as the shoppers leave the store.  If a shopper gives a cash donation, the Girl Scout troop will purchase items on the list and place them in the bins. Girl Scouts do not raise money for other organizations but we can help out collecting goods for them. Girl Scouts know how to approach customers for a cookie booth – smile, don’t pester the shopper in the store, say thank you and don’t block walkways.

To sign up for a time, visit the volunteer sign-up page:

http://firstlady.ky.gov/Pages/shopshare.aspx

When you go to the website, signup with your email address.  Click on your region on the map of Kentucky.  You will see all of the Kroger stores listed.  There are 2 hour time slots with 4 slots each.  Most Kroger stores have 2 doors.  If you are bringing a troop of 4 girls or more – sign up for all 4 spots and cover both doors.  If you are a small troop or an individual – just sign up for one or two spots at one door.

The deadline to volunteer is January 23. Please act now, we need your help!
